12 kV
Operating voltage
In modern high energy-intensive industrial plants, such as rolling mills for steel wire rod production, drive systems (electric motors coupled with inverters) introduce significant disturbances into the electrical network. These disturbances result in voltage imbalances, harmonic distortion, and reactive power fluctuations that compromise plant stability and may exceed the limits imposed by energy distributors.
Latec provided specialized technical support to a major Italian industrial company for the design and installation of a medium-voltage (12 kV) reactive power compensation system (RPCS). The intervention was carried out at a steel production facility located in Lombardy.
The RPCS system enabled:
- Elimination of voltage dips and drops during peak load conditions
- Stabilization of supply voltage, improving the reliability of electrical drive systems
- Reduction of harmonic current content, enhancing overall power quality
- Compliance with utility regulations regarding electromagnetic emissions and harmonic distortion
Thanks to this solution, the plant achieved significant improvements in productivity, operational continuity, and overall energy performance.
